Antelope Valley Community College Expansion
Lancaster, California

The 200 million dollar expansion of the existing community college campus involves a new two and three-story health and science building, a new multi-level performing arts facility, a new agricultural complex with offices, classrooms and greenhouses, relocation of the exiting auto body shop, two new central plant buildings, construction of a new maintenance and operations complex, several new classroom/office buildings, as well as the “West Campus Expansion” project.  The West Campus Expansion project includes a new physical fitness/sports complex, including a new football stadium with new bleachers, press box and playing field, new artificial turf practice and playing fields, along with new baseball and softball fields with dugouts and concession/maintenance buildings. The structures will be constructed utilizing conventional shallow concrete foundations with concrete slabs-on-grade, the new structures are of wood-frame/masonry/poured in-place concrete and steel frame construction.   Construction/reconstruction of campus parking lots, access and drive lanes, as well as improvements to adjacent city streets are part of the campus improvements.

Earth Systems Southern California provided geotechnical engineering and pavement design reports for all the proposed structure and planned pavement improvements, as well as grading and construction observation and materials testing and inspection services for the improvements currently underway.  Special inspection and materials testing performed include concrete, asphalt concrete pavement section placement, masonry, steel framing, high-strength bolting, fireproofing, and epoxy bolt installation.  Construction activity is anticipated to last approximately five years.
