Encompassing over 40 square miles of mixed federal, state, and private lands located southwest of Salton City in Imperial County, the Truckhaven – San Felipe geothermal prospects represent likely two separate moderate temperature (320ºF to 360ºF) geothermal systems. These systems are related to deep circulation of groundwater along faults and fractures within an area of elevated geothermal gradient. Contracts to produce over 100 Megawatts of geothermal power have been issued for this region.
The current $600,000 project is a California Energy Commission Geothermal Resources Development Account [GRDA] cost sharing project. Our client, with assistance from Earth Systems Southwest, was a successful applicant for these State funds. Our firm will conduct a basic geothermal exploration of the area, including geologic mapping, geophysical studies, and spring sampling. These studies will be integrated into an exploration model. The data and exploration model will be made part of the public domain to assist regulators, exploration companies, and other interested parties.
Earth Systems Southwest’s key geothermal expert, who will be the Principal Investigator and Project Manager representing the client, has been associated with the prospects and other geothermal fields in Imperial County since about 1987.
